Festivaldelgusto September 2014

This year the Festivaldelgusto was again held in the Le Marche region of eastern Italy, this time at the historic venue of the Castello de Monterado near the beautiful Adriatic resort of Senigallia. We were determined to build on the success of the first Festival in Italy in 2013 so this year we decided to hold the event at the Castello as we knew this beautiful venue well and were also encouraged and supported by the enthusiasm of the owner Orlando Rodano to hold our event there.
The Castello di Monterado is a perfect place to hold events and is a stunning venue situated in the small village of Monterado which was founded in 1267, it is about 15 km from the Adriatic coast and the beautiful seaside resort town of Senigallia.
The weather in Italy this year has not been very good with storms, a great deal of rain and high winds on and off over the spring and summer, indeed only a few days before the event there were very high winds and storms on the coast which had done a lot of damage but on the day we could not have wished for better weather, warm sun and blue skies.

The first part of this years Festival was held in the beautifully restored cantina of the Castello, there were thirteen food and wine producers present, with a selection of typical Marche wines, olive oils, jams, chocolate, cooked meats and honey for the guests to sample and there were also a leather bag manufacturer and a maker of perfumed soaps, trinkets and oils.
The local Marchigiani producers included the wine makers from Terracruda and La Fontursia, excellent olive oils and wines from Giordano Galiardi and a fantastic range of cooked and smoked meats and salame from Macelleria Capella
Guests started arriving at 5 pm and wound down when we moved to the local restaurant in the village for a five course meal with wine, and the evening was a great success and proved very popular with the many local Italian visitors and also guests from Australia, Holland, Canada and the UK.
The next morning Andrea Tomassetti and Giordano Galiardi held our first olive oil school in the old kitchens in the Castello, this was a two hour workshop and tasting session and was mainly attended by our Australian visitors,

We were really pleased that our good friend Ben Cleary from Brisbane was able to come to both the Saturday and Sunday events with members of his tour group from Australia, they were on a tour of artisan producers in several different regions of Italy and there were many other guests from the UK, Holland, Canada and also New Zealand.
Due to the success of this years Festival in Le Marche we are now planning several other events in both the UK, Italy and Malta. In the UK the next Festival event will be in co operation with Slow Food in East Anglia and this will take place on two days over the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of November, and will be held at the beautiful venue Dragon Hall. in Norwich, Norfolk.
As well as the next Festivaldelgusto in Le Marche in September 2015, we are now in the process of planning to hold similar events in Puglia and possibly Umbria in the summer of 2015, and also on the Island of Malta. There are more photos, video and details on our dedicated Flickr Page and there will be updates about all the future Festival events on this Blog and also on the Festivaldelgusto website.

Malta Food Event in December

Festivaldelgusto are very pleased to be working on an exciting new event in Malta this December held together with MCA , the Mediterranean Culinary Academy and several Slow Food groups from Italy and other Mediterranean countries. We have been planning to hold an organic and sustainable food event in Valletta the capital of Malta since the Slow Food Mediterranean conference in Valletta last October. The event will mainly be aimed toward promoting small artisan producers from around the Mediterranean region as well as representatives from many of the countries taking part. During the day there will be a series of workshops, talks and pop up street food stands as well as a dedicated kitchen where chefs can prepare dishes which are typical of their home countries. It is hoped that the event can be held outside in the streets close to the beautiful Hastings Gardens, but if this is not possible because of the weather in December then it will be relocated to an indoor venue in another part
